All of us are born with two fears: the fear of falling and fear of loud noises. All the rest—fear of spiders, snakes, clowns, flying, close spaces, getting sick, dogs, needles—are learned and can be unlearned. In Phobia Relief: From Fear to Freedom, Kalliope Barlis offers step-by-step instructions for ridding yourself of illogical fears and phobias by using Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques. What she offers is education, not therapy, and the results can be absolutely liberating.

“When you meet Kalliope, you feel as if you’ve known her forever. She dispels all your fears and allows you to see beyond today. It’s that feeling of knowing how the future can look with the results you desire. Kalliope, you are truly a Godsend. Thank you!”
—Joe Benjamin, Network Security Engineer

5 Star Amazon Review

This novel was more than I expected. There was no counting from ten backward or staring at a swinging pendulum until one was hypnotized. Instead, it was a question-and-answer thing: what do you want? Why do you want what you want? What would you do, or how would you feel once you achieve what you want? This straightforwardness, the aspect I loved most, made the book easy to read and the steps it presented easy to follow.

Another noteworthy feature in the book is the use of factual data and visual metaphors to drive the message home. For one, the author points out that less than one percent of snakebites in the U.S. are fatal, indicating that the fear of snakes is overly needless. She talks about rewinding a movie when one wants to rewatch a scene. Also, she says that architects have taken to building skyscrapers to accommodate a city's increasing population rather than expanding the town's size. The last two concern the brain. Read the book to see how they relate.

Finally, this book contains exercises to help one overcome their phobia. Besides, there is a sample session that Kalliope had with a client out of whom clowns scared the daylights. Therefore, I found it very engaging. Furthermore, it is a cost-effective way of managing one's fear. So, read it, follow the steps, and see wonders.

I rate Phobia Relief: From Fear to Freedom five out of five stars
